Plants Love You 2026: Environmental Benefits of Ornamental Plants

The Plants Love YouTM campaign was launched to educate and inspire Canadians about the essential role plants play in climate action, community well-being, and the economy. Now entering its next phase, the campaign emphasizes how planting, growing, and caring for green spaces is not just a lifestyle choice but a public good. For Canadians who care about health, affordability, and climate resilience, plants are part of the solution. Ornamental horticulture is Canada’s 5th most valuable agricultural crop, generating $14.4 billion GDP impact, 222,000+jobs, and $4.5 billion in tax revenue annually.

But beyond economics, plants deliver measurable environmental, health, and social benefits:

● Mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon and cooling cities

● Reducing flooding and cleaning air/water

● Improving physical health, reducing stress, and enhancing mental well-being

● Building safer, stronger, more connected communities

The campaign is supported by Agri-Marketing (AAFC)funding, which flows back to members through advertising and activity rebates, helping promote the sector nationally and internationally. Advertising subsidy will be available through CNLA’s AgriMarketing program to support member Plants Love YouTM campaign advertising between April 1 2026 and March 31, 2027!

Campaign Goals

● Raise awareness among the Canadian public that plants are not decorative extras, they are climate heroes, health allies, and economic drivers.

● Drive positive sentiment and pride in Canada’s horticultural sector.

● Encourage Canadians to buy, plant, and care for green infrastructure (trees, gardens, lawns, flowers, shrubs) as a way to take personal climate action.

● Support CNLA members (garden centres, growers, landscapers) by positioning the industry as a solution provider for a healthier, more sustainable Canada.
