Hansen is a Nova Scotian who moved to Ottawa as a kid after his father left the navy. He got an early start in landscaping, launching Hansen Lawn & Gardens in 1988, drawn to hands-on work, creativity, and building outdoor spaces that improve people’s lives. He joined Landscape Ontario in 2003 and spent nearly a decade volunteering, mentored through the Ottawa Chapter and onto the provincial board.

His community involvement includes projects and fundraising for Ronald McDonald House and CHEO, founding a memorial golf tournament in honour of his father, and long-time leadership of Ottawa’s Cancer Survivor’s Park (built in 2008), which he has chaired for about 16 years. Outside of work, he recharges at his cottage, spending time outdoors away from modern distractions.
